LAFC beat Leon 3-0 in the second leg of the round of 16 CONCACAF Champions League, allowing them to move onto the next round as the aggregate was 3-2. Carlos Vela pulled out all of the cards in his performance. For starters, Vela scored the first two goals of the match, ran at a gazels pace until the 87th minute, was fouled often, attempted some Oscar performances, had a goal taken away, and served many passes to only watch the final strike inch away from the goal.
This victory was vital for LAFC as they needed a significant win to build the team culture that they can come from behind to win big games. The team has newcomers who played an important role and who will improve in the weeks to come. Brian Rodriguez played most of the game and was one touch away from making a huge impact early on. Brian must have put too much pressure on himself as you could see, he wanted to be the hero early on. The team worked to help him on his venture, but he lacked the concentration needed. Rodriguez has the speed, skill, and intelligence to become a real threat for LAFC. I think it won't be long before we see his capability. Francisco Ginella came on as a substitute and had an efficient night. He wasn't responsible for allowing Leon to score and made some key blocks and passes to keep the tempo in LAFC's favor. Lastly, Adrien Perez came on to replace a worn-out Rodriguez and made some key passes. I would like to see him make more defensive plays and runs as Leon countered from their side, but overall, he was vital in the movement for LAFC's third goal.
LAFC is a fun team to watch as their style of play is going to continue to disrupt strategies from any of their MLS counterparts. They have a hunger for control of the ball and to push everyone forward in their attempts to score. Carlos Vela continues to be a key member of their orchestra, and I can't wait to see what LAFC does in the next round of the Concacaf Champions League.
